Tom Vogl is a principal systems engineer in Commercial Systems Aviation Information Management department at Rockwell Collins. He has been working in engineering flight, aviation and communications development and automation for 20 years. As a research and development project engineer for unmanned and autonomous systems, Vogl focused on certifiable avionics integration within controlled airspace and support of RTCA standards for communications and detect and avoid (DAA). Applications include distributed flight management systems (FMS) and validated and verified automation. He has previously developed situation awareness applications for Synthetic Vision with NASA and the Air Force, as well as the inclusion and integration of sensor systems for DARPA’s Multifunction Radio Frequency Synthetic Vision Avionics Backbone program for automated rotorcraft operations in degraded visual environments. This work is underscored by product development and certification experience in next-generation Pro Line Fusion® avionics and military communications systems.
